Dear local food supporters,
If you have not yet heard about our Marketplace program transition: after careful consideration following setbacks, we have made the difficult decision to close our Marketplace retail/delivery program, and not move into the building on Stillwell Avenue.
Our priority remains supporting the incredible farmers, fishers, and food makers who are integral to a resilient and food-secure Tillamook County. We are committed to assisting these local food champions in identifying new sales opportunities, and exploring ways to collaborate in the future.
Our Ongoing Commitment to Tillamook County
Food Roots remains steadfast in our mission to grow a robust and equitable food system. While we are navigating changes, our commitment to impactful programs and partnerships continues:
- Farm-to-School Programming: We provide local produce tastings, guide field trips, host local guest speakers, and collaborate with teachers to engage and inspire students.
- Food Producer Support: Our Individual Development Account (IDA) program continues to help farmers and food producers develop and expand their businesses, and we have recently secured additional funding.
- Community Food Initiatives: We partner with local organizations to purchase food from farmers, donating fresh produce to families facing food insecurity.
- Garden Contributions: This past summer, family-friendly education and volunteer work in the gardens at the schools resulted in 656 lbs of produce donated to the school food pantries.
- Food distribution: In collaboration with partners, we are exploring ways to use our van to benefit our regional food system.
We Want to Hear from You
As we navigate this transition, we would love to learn your thoughts on how Food Roots can continue to serve our community. Your feedback is vital in helping us re-imagine our future together.
Thank you
Each of you are an essential part of our mission and support local farmers and food makers. If you would like to contribute to our ongoing programs—such as Farm-to-School, community gardens and food equity, and farm/food business support—please consider making a donation. Together, we can continue to cultivate a resilient and vibrant local food system.
With love and gratitude,
Food Roots
